UK Planet Tools are proud to support charities that we're not only passionate about, but that we believe are making a difference to this world.
That's why, over the Christmas period, our staff decided to use the festivities to give back, raising a whopping £1,000 for Cancer Research UK!
As lovers of all things fun, coming up with amusing things to do to raise this money was no challenge. Read on to find out why we chose Cancer Research UK, what they do, and what we did as a result of our mission. |

Why Cancer Research UK?
As a charity currently funding over half of the UK's research into cancer, they really are fighting for people's lives. Today, over 3 million people will be living with cancer, relying on Cancer Research UK's support. This can be mental support through their Cancer Chat platform, or physical support as they discover new life-saving treatments.
But cancer does not just affect the ones who are experiencing it. Cancer is universal. One in every two of us will get cancer and most of us will know someone who has had it in our lifetimes. This is why it is so important not only to treat cancer, but to prevent it. Cancer Research UK recognises this, that's why they provide essential funding to scientists, doctors, and nurses who are looking at ways to cure cancer, as well as reduce the risk of developing it in the first place.
However, despite their groundbreaking work, there is still so much more to do. With over 200 types of cancer identified, and a high chance of it affecting our lives, more research needs to be funded before this illness becomes a thing of the past. That's why we've picked Cancer Research UK as our chosen charity.
So, what did we do to raise the cash?
Good question. After deciding on a charity, we put our heads together to think of ideas to raise money. We knew we wanted to do something Christmas-themed, and that people had to pay a sensible amount for it (it was Christmas, after all).
So, we decided on a Christmas Jumper Day (because every day should be Christmas Jumper Day!), followed by a Christmas Lunch and raffle.
For Christmas Jumper Day, we wanted the best costumes only. This meant there HAD to be a prize at the end of it. And so, we decided the winner would get the ultimate Christmas gift: chocolates. Fun fact: here at UK Planet Tools, we love our chocolate. Naturally, this is when the competition got tough!
The day saw each team member bring in a small donation in exchange for wearing whatever silly jumper they had lurking in the cupboard. Or, for some, a full-on costume!
Our favourites included a snowman jumper, a Homer Simpson jumper, and an elf outfit!
Next, we had the raffle. For every ticket purchased, we had the chance to win some fantastic prizes. We're talking everything from a TOUGH MASTER® Swing Egg Chair to a £300 John Lewis Voucher, to something as banal as a face mask or packet of apples.
The raffle happened at our Christmas Lunch on 18th December 2021 and, after some healthy competition over who would get that delightful Swing Egg Chair, we all had a ball in the name of a good cause.
An outcome to be proud of
All in all, we made £500, which was kindly matched by our company, coming to a grand total of £1,000!
We sincerely hope this money makes a difference, and changes lives.
